Job Title: R&D Chemist III
Salary: $70,000 - $77,000
Job Overview: The R&D Chemist lll is responsible for executing assigned projects which involve the research, development and testing of new OTC Drug or Cosmetic products, technologies, packaging, and product improvements.

Successfully formulate and scale up a variety of formulation types.

Has a good understanding of the physical, chemical, biological, microbiological, engineering, and regulatory aspects for the development and technology transfer process.

Proficient understanding of formulation laboratory equipment (e.g., mixers, hotplates, balances, pH meters, viscometers, filling equipment, lip stick molds etc.) and it impact during technology transfer.

Deep understanding of the production equipment capabilities and its impact on the formulation for the formulation types mastered.

Proficient understanding of raw materials and chemical compatibility used for formulation development while proficiently applying it to predict the overall final product's physical and chemical properties.

Propose solutions when working with vendors to address raw material issues.

Consistently maintains accurate documentation of formulation, procedures, results, data, and conclusions.

Apply brand heart concepts and consumer product usage trends during product development and raw material selection.

Keeps up with new industry trends.

Good understanding of the concepts involved in assessing stability of OTC drug and consumer products.

Proficient in the application of physical and sensory test data for formulation development.

Able to propose investigative testing when troubleshooting formulation issues.

Proficient in analyzing technical data or qualitative feedback.

Can independently make recommendations based upon analysis.

Understands the physical, chemical microbiological concepts, and regulatory requirements involved in the assessment of OTC drug and consumer products.

Suggests or performs special projects, as assigned, or agreed by the Manager or Supervisor, R&D, which enhance and contribute to the growth of the Research & Development Department.

Performs and assumes other duties and responsibilities, as may be required by the Manager or Supervisor, R&D.
Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, or related scientific discipline with 3-5 years of applicable laboratory experience preferable in the cosmetics or pharmaceutical OTC industry.

Master's degree in Chemistry, Biology, or related scientific discipline with 1-3 years of applicable laboratory experience preferable in the cosmetics or pharmaceutical OTC industry.

Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Biology, or related scientific discipline with 0-1 years of applicable laboratory experience preferable in the cosmetics or pharmaceutical OTC industry.

Consistently demonstrates good mathematical ability and analytical skills. Accurately calculates percentages, formula costs, and applies basic statistics. Applies concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Performs spreadsheet mathematical and graphical analysis.

Established experience in electronic forms of data analysis techniques and communication.

Demonstrates consistency with the ability to write technical updates, technical reports, memos, regulatory documents, operating procedures, protocols, experimental design, data analysis and other communication as needed.

Understands and adheres to Good Laboratory practices, cGMP, safety regulations, confidential procedures. and understands the importance of and takes the initiative to contribute to the routine functioning of the R&D laboratory.

Proficiency with computers and in Microsoft programs including Outlook, Word, Power Point and Excel

Ability to learn new software such as ELN and Regulatory Documentation programs.

Understands and follows appropriate lab safety practices

Proficient at effective communication skills for interactions with laboratory colleagues, project managers, and colleagues from numerous functional areas.
